VALLEY FORGE, Penn. (October 1, 2003) – Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics offers a new fabric material for the production of composites in closed mold processes. MULTICORE® fabric is a combination of chopped strand mat (CSM) stitched on both sides of a synthetic core. It is recommended for such processes as resin transfer molding, RTM Lite, pressure and vacuum injection molding, and infusion and compression molding.

MULTICORE fabric derives its strength from the outer fiberglass layers while the core facilitates excellent resin flow throughout a part. Advantages to using MULTICORE fabric include good conformability, fast wet out in RTM and vacuum processes, lower processing time, compatibility with most resins, a balanced construction, and excellent surface finish.

MULTICORE fabric is available in a number of weights that allow selection of a single product for varying cavity thicknesses. This also reduces cutting and installation labor while reducing material scrap. Thickness can be built fast to increase part stiffness.
