VALLEY FORGE, Penn. (October 1, 2003) – For many homeowners nothing adds timeless elegance better than a wrought iron fence. But real wrought iron is expensive, and painted steel or aluminum substitutes require high levels of maintenance. Prestige™ Series ornamental composite fencing uses advanced composite technology from Saint-Gobain Vetrotex to combine the classic look of wrought iron estate fencing with the maintenance-free and durability features homeowners expect.

Prestige fence posts, rails, and pickets are formed from Twintex® composite, a 75% glass fiber, 25% chemically coupled, heat- and light-stabilized polypropylene-based concentrate. High temperature and pressure permanently bond the composite structure to a highly durable and fade-resistant polypropylene outer layer.

The Twintex material makes Prestige fencing 60% stronger than aluminum. At lower load stress levels, Prestige fence remains slightly more flexible than aluminum, so it absorbs impacts such as a bump from a lawn mower. At higher stress loads, however, Prestige fence actually becomes more rigid than aluminum. This allows the fence to better withstand heavier impacts such as fallen tree limbs and the occasional climber. The composite formulation of polypropylene and fiberglass also gives Prestige fencing exceptional fade-resistance and a distinctive matte finish look of wrought iron.

“Prestige fencing has a very smooth look, an almost Old World feel, with the estate elegance of wrought iron custom craftsmanship,” says Chris Bourque, Director of Marketing for Bufftech, a quality brand of CertainTeed Corporation.
