esin
infusion represents an environmentally friendly alternative to open
molding. Resin infusion is able to produce consistently high-quality
parts for products like pleasure boats and windmill blades. The process
allows structures measuring several meters that are thick and complex,
incorporating cores and inserts to be fabricated. |

The principle of the process is the impregnation
of layers of dry reinforcement contained between a rigid, air-tight
mold and a flexible sheet sealed to it around its perimeter. A partial
vacuum is applied to the mold cavity before resin is allowed to infuse
into the reinforcement under atmospheric pressure, impregnating both
across and down through the reinforcement layers. The upper sheet
is removed once resin cure is complete, and the component may be removed.
